Chinese brush painting created by me in Brighton, UK
This is one painting from my new series in the Pomo style.
Pomo 潑墨, or Splashing Ink refers to a technique that involves working wet in wet, where watercolour and ink are thrown or poured onto rice paper, pre-mounted board, or shikishi board. The painting then is completed using traditional brush work. The concept of 'Splashed ink' is generally associated with the eccentrics of the later Tang dynasty and with some Zen artists of 13 century. It gained popularity through the works of Zhang Daqian 張大千(1899-1983).
After the Pomo dried, based on its shape, I had the idea of depicting it as the waterfall in my home province. It's name is Yellow Fruit mountain 黃果樹大瀑布.
The painting was showcased at The Maker's large summer art event in One Garden, Brighton, and received a lot of attention.
I have added some calligraphy in small regular script of Xiao kai 小楷. These are my thoughts about this painting: a high mountain and flowing water, listening to the sounds of nature, and getting inspired.
Signed, dated and stamped with stone seals carved by me.
