Inspired by the Horse, a powerful symbol of strength, freedom, passion, and success in Chinese culture.
The Fire Horse year represents courage, creativity, and forward momentum—encouraging us to embrace new opportunities with confidence.
During the workshop, you will create works featuring:
-
The Horse, symbol of the Lunar New Year
-
Seasonal flowers such as Narcissus (水仙) and Plum Blossom (梅花)
-
Woodblock printing, including a galloping horse 馬到成功 and the character 福 (good fortune)
In this workshop, you’ll create your own ink painting of a Fire Horse paired with plum blossoms or Chinese daffodils. You’ll also write calligraphy with meaningful phrases on red xuan paper, and print your own New Year decorations featuring a galloping horse and the symbol of good fortune (福).
Your final ink painting artwork will be created on pre-mounted xuan (rice) paper, while the printing artwork will be on red Xuan paper, ready to frame or display at home.
The year of fire horse starts on 17th Feb. 2026 but we traditionally start to decorate the house a few weeks before to bring the positive energies in.
