Join artist Jing Wang for a peaceful and inspiring day exploring the timeless beauty of Chinese calligraphy brushstrokes and ink painting.
In this autumn-themed workshop, you’ll learn foundational brushstroke techniques and traditional ink methods used in Chinese painting to depict bamboo — one of the Four Gentlemen (四君子) in Chinese art, symbolising integrity, modesty, and resilience.
Guided by Jing, you’ll study renowned works by the modern artist Liu Zigu(柳子谷) to experience the expressive rhythm and elegant spirit of classical ink painting. You’ll discover how to convey the strength and grace of bamboo through dynamic brushwork inspired by his timeless style, creating a piece that evokes the tranquillity and poetry of a moonlit evening.
Participants who prefer to paint a different subject are also welcome — Jing will provide individual guidance throughout.
With step-by-step instruction, you’ll complete at least one beautiful artwork to take home — perfect to keep or to give as a thoughtful Christmas gift.
This class is suitable for all experience levels, from complete beginners to experienced artists. We’ll even have the wood burner on to make it extra cosy!
Enjoy a warm Chinese lunch, tea, and snacks, and relax by the wood burner as you paint — a truly cosy and creative way to spend your autumn Sunday.
