Join artist Jing Wang for an advanced exploration of Chinese brushwork in this immersive masterclass focusing on the atmospheric Ink Wash Technique (水墨 - Shuǐmò). This specialized session takes place directly inside Jing’s solo exhibition, Echoes of the Tides, allowing you to learn surrounded by the very collection inspired by the local landscape.
In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn to paint a captivating local scene: "White Egret in Reeds by the Cuckmere Bankside." inspired by Chinese artist's painting about herons. This subject perfectly embodies the exhibition's theme, merging traditional Chinese painterly philosophies with the iconic wildlife of the Sussex coast.
Jing will guide you through the sophisticated art of tonal ink grading, showing you how to control water and ink ratios to create depth, mist, and light. You will discover how to capture the elegant, sharp form of the white egret using precise lines, contrasted against the loose, expressive brushstrokes of the riverbank reeds. Rather than focusing on rigid realism, you will learn to evoke the poetic mood and spirit of Cuckmere Haven.
All premium tools and materials are provided, including professional Chinese ink, specialized landscape brushes, and high-absorbency Xuan rice paper. While this workshop is a wonderful follow-up to Wednesday's introductory session, it welcomes both ambitious beginners and intermediate artists looking to expand their technique.
Enjoy authentic Chinese tea, seasonal snacks, and light refreshments as you paint, finding your creative flow in a serene gallery setting.
