Dancing in the Breeze - Chinese Brush Painting

Inspired by the peonies in my own garden & in Luoyang. The romantic peony surrounds a wonderful symbolism. Because of its large, colourful flowers, the Chinese, for example, revere it as a good luck charm and as the embodiment of prosperity. The latter is probably linked to the fact that for many centuries only nobles were allowed to decorate their gardens with peonies. In Japan too, the peony is a symbol of wealth, but also of feminine beauty and of long life.
I employed Chinese calligraphy brush stroke techniques to render each petal, utilising half-cursive and cursive scripts.
Materials:
- Medium: Chinese ink and mineral pigments on double unsized Xuan rice paper (生宣)
- Backing: Mounted on another layer of mulberry paper
- Framing: Bespoke beautifully in natural oak, by our local amazing frame artist Tim

Features:
- Signed, dated, and stamped with stone seals carved by myself, the two on the right bottom bear my first name and surname, the one on the left bottom is meditation.
- Created in a contemporary style using traditional materials, incorporating a twist with Western oil painting techniques though didn't use any oil painting colours but only Chinese natural ink and natural Chinese pigments.
Exhibition History: This work was displayed at Venue 6 Delicious Delights in Fiveways Trail as part of the AOH artists exhibition during the Brighton Festival. It garnered much attention and is now available for purchase.
