Chinese brush painting (sumi-e) in Brighton, UK
This is an original Chinese painting, or sumi-e art in another word of orchid and blue bird. Hand painted on double Xuan rice paper backed on silk scroll in freshly ground natural ink and mineral pigments.
Signed, dated and stamped with stone seals carved by myself which one bears my name, one means best wishes and another is a drawing of meditation.
Painted in my home studio Plum Blossom Ink Art.
In traditional Chinese culture, the orchid represents good taste and beauty. Simple and elegant, its fragrance is never overpowering, symbolizing humility and nobility. A good friend may be called an 'orchid' friend, as a reference to the orchid's enduring beauty and understated elegance.
Confucius loves orchid. he wrote poems for orchid. Later a famous Han yu wrote a well-known poem about orchid to worship Confucius
I named this painting with the first sentence from this poem Orchid , You Lan Cao 幽兰操.
Inspired by poem Orchid by Han yu 韩愈 (768－824）
Slender, slender is the orchid \ Gently, gently grace the land.
Of all flora she excels \ Her scents so lightly unfold.
If no one recognizes her beauty \ Why should her be so hurt?
For days and years \ I have roamed the world alone.
Recalling how the King of Zhou \ Found his sage by the River Wei.
The orchid was so happily honored \ With so much fragrance and pride.
Heavy frost, followed by deep snow \ Tis'here the orchid buds quietly bred.
Virtuous as I am,I walk alone \ Hoping in one day, the posterity shall know.
Is't it beautiful?
This is NOT a print or a reproduction, this is my original artwork.
